About 10 years ago, I started randomly asking my grandmother to tell me stories about when she was younger. She was a young girl in Germany in World War 2, and her family fled the dangers of the US and UK bombings in the city for the relative safety of the Germany country side.
When she was 18, she came the United States alone. She had a few extended family members in the US at the time. She didn’t know the language, and moved around until she eventually settled down in Boston, MA.
After my grandfather passed away, my (other) grandmother and I would talk about him and what their life was like when they first started dating and early in their marriage. My grandmother told me a side of my grandfather that I never knew. I admired the risk-taking and ‘we’ll figure it out’ attitude that she shared, although I’m sure the circumstances were much more concerning at the time. When she told me about my great-grandfather, and the upbringing he had, I found myself wishing I knew more about not only my family tree, but the stories of the people who helped get my family to where it was today.
That’s how AIBiography.io started. I wanted to learn more about my own family, and hopefully we can help you do the same.
Happy Story-Telling,
Paul
